A senior Delhi Police official said that this decision has been taken after the instructions of the central government. Indian Citizenship Proof: Now you cannot prove your citizenship through Aadhar card, PAN card or ration card. In simple words, even if you have these three documents, you will not be able to prove on the basis of them whether you are an Indian citizen or not. Delhi Police has clarified that now only Voter ID card or passport will be considered as proof of citizenship. A senior Delhi Police officer said that this decision has been taken after the instructions of the central government.

In fact, during the verification campaign running since October last year, it was found that a large number of illegally living foreign citizens, especially Bangladeshis and Rohingyas, were falsely claiming Indian citizenship using Aadhar, PAN and ration cards.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the police official said, “Many illegal immigrants were found to be carrying Aadhaar cards, ration cards, PAN cards and even cards issued by the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees). This made it difficult to properly identify Indian citizens. Hence, voter ID cards or Indian passports have now been made mandatory.”

Delhi Police has directed DCPs of all districts to increase surveillance on suspicious persons in their areas. The officer said that the campaign against illegal immigrants will continue till every person is sent back.

3500 Pakistani citizens in Delhi

With this, Delhi Police has intensified action against Pakistani citizens living in the capital. According to the current information, about 3500 Pakistani citizens live in Delhi, including about 520 Muslims, out of which more than 400 have returned to Pakistan through Attari border.

After the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the central government has decided to cancel the visas of Pakistani citizens, in which only those holding medical, diplomatic or long term visa (LTV) have been exempted. Medical visa will also be considered invalid after April 29.

Delhi Police and intelligence agencies have been instructed to collect information about all Pakistani citizens living in Delhi and issue orders to send them back immediately. The government has also clarified that the visas of Hindu Pakistani nationals already holding long-term visas will remain valid.
