Mira Bhayandar Crime News: Swiggy Deliveryman Arrested Within 36 Hours For Molesting 13-Year-Old Girl In Mira Road
Palghar: A Swiggy deliveryman has been arrested within 36 hours for allegedly molesting a 13-year-old girl after luring her under false pretenses. The Mira Road Police Crime Detection Unit made the arrest following a swift investigation.
About The Incident
According to the complaint filed by the girl’s mother, the incident occurred on April 28 at approximately 7 pm near the Raj Heritage Building in Mira Road. The girl was on her way to a garden when an unidentified man approached her. Posing as someone unfamiliar with the area, he asked the girl for directions to Bhayandar and persuaded her to get on his scooter. He then took her to the first floor of an under-construction building near Aala Hazrat Ground, where he allegedly molested her.
Following the complaint, an FIR was registered at the Mira Road Police Station. The charges include Sections 74 and 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, along with Sections 8 and 12 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Recognizing the serious nature of the case involving a minor, senior police officials immediately instructed their team to identify and apprehend the accused at the earliest. The accused had gone into hiding following the incident, but thanks to methodical investigation at the crime scene and strategic intelligence gathering, the team successfully traced and arrested him within 36 hours.
The arrested individual has been identified as Ajay Dharma Gupta, 23, a Mira Road resident employed as a Swiggy delivery agent. He is originally from Fatehabad in the Agra district of Uttar Pradesh.
Assistant Police Inspector Pravin Bhosale is leading the investigation under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Meghna Burande. The operation was conducted under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner of Police Prakash Gaikwad (Circle 01, Mira Road) and Assistant Commissioner of Police Dr. Vijay Marathe (Mira Road Division).
