“Yeh teja teja kya hai?” 'Andaz Apna Apna' re-release strikes box office gold

The re-release of Andaz Apna Apna has proven that some films are truly timeless, echoing Amar and Prem’s undying, although often misguided, friendship. Riding high on nostalgia, digitally remastered visuals, and an aggressive social media campaign, the re-release has stunned the trade analysts with its high figures.
According to the industry tracker Sacnilk, the Indian gross collection of the movie stands at 7.10 crores – a figure far beyond what the film earned in its original run. The movie also brought in an overseas collection of 0.49 crores, and it's becoming part of the growing list of hit re-releases.
Directed by Rajkumar Santoshi and starring Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Raveena Tandon and Karishma Kapoor, the film was initially a lukewarm performer at the box office when it first premiered back in 1994. It just grossed 5 crores in its original run against a budget of 3 crores. Even with big names connected to the movie, it failed to meet commercial expectations at the time. Fast forward to 2025, the film has become a classic comedy. Thanks to countless TV re-runs and memes, characters like Amar, Prem, Crime Master Gogo, and Teja have entered the vocabulary of Indian pop culture.
The re-release, presented in a fully restored 4K version with Dolby 5.1 sound, also features the previously deleted song "Shola Shola".
Even with new movies, the charm of Andaz Apna Apna has not faded, with moviegoers still eager to experience the comedic brilliance on the big screen. This continued excitement also shows the lasting impact 90s films have on the audience. From box office dud to re-release dynamite — Andaz Apna Apna’s second chance has turned out to be a smash hit.
