Netizens brutally troll KKR’s Rs 23.75 crore buy Venkatesh Iyer for flop IPL 2025; fans call him ‘fraud’

New Delhi: Venkatesh Iyer, a Kolkata Knight Riders batsman acquired for a substantial 23.75 crore rupees at the mega auction, continued his underwhelming performance in IPL 2025. His contribution of only 7 runs against Delhi Capitals on Tuesday, following a total of 135 runs in nine previous matches, fueled significant online criticism regarding both his form and his high price.

In IPL 2025’s 48th match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi Capitals won the toss and chose to field first against Kolkata Knight Riders. KKR’s lineup included the previously uncapped left-arm spinner, Anukul Roy.

Despite a late batting collapse, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) managed a respectable 204-run total due to strong contributions from their middle-order batsmen. Although their scoring rate slowed considerably towards the end of their innings, KKR’s total appeared substantial, particularly given the effectiveness of their bowling attack, notably Sunil Narine’s proven bowling ability.

Delhi Capitals faced a challenging chase of 205 runs, encountering early setbacks with the dismissals of Abhishek Porel (0) and Karun Nair (15). Faf du Plessis provided stability with a well-played 62 off 45 balls, featuring seven fours and two sixes, but consistent wicket losses hampered the team’s pursuit of the target.

Delhi’s chase faltered as Narine’s key breakthroughs and Varun Chakaravarthy’s late wickets stifled their lower order. Narine dismissed du Plessis and Stubbs, while Chakaravarthy removed Sharma and Starc, effectively ending Delhi’s hopes.

Kolkata Knight Riders successfully defended their total against Delhi, winning by 14 runs. Vipraj Nigam’s late 38 off 19 balls wasn’t enough for Delhi to overcome KKR’s strong bowling performance, spearheaded by Sunil Narine’s 3 for 29 and Varun’s 2 for 39.

The Kolkata Knight Riders won their match by 14 runs, demonstrating strong team performance and resilience.
