Super specialty IPDs shift from IGMC to Chamiyana tomorrow

The indoor patient departments (IPDs), operation theatres and laboratories of the gastroenterology, urology and plastic surgery departments at Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC), Shimla, are set to be shifted to the Atal Institute of Medical Super Specialties in Chamiyana. The corresponding outdoor patient departments (OPDs) had already been relocated over six months ago.

“We are aiming to make the shifted facilities operational from May 1,” confirmed Dr Brij Sharma, Principal of the Atal Super-Speciality Medical Institute.

Last August, the OPDs of eight super-specialty departments—urology, cardiology, nephrology, endocrinology, plastic surgery, gastroenterology, neurology and CVTS—were moved to Chamiyana, with plans to shift the IPDs in phases.

“Now, we will have six fully functional departments at Chamiyana,” Dr Sharma said. “The IPDs of nephrology, endocrinology and neurology are already operational here. Only the IPDs of CVTS and cardiology remain at IGMC and will also be relocated gradually.” This marks a significant step in decentralising super-specialty services from the crowded IGMC campus, aiming to enhance patient care and reduce pressure on the city hospital.
