Shift offices from Shimla to Dharamsala, CM urged
A delegation from Dharamsala today requested Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to shift some of the government offices from Shimla to other locations, including their town.
The delegation, led by Congress leader and former Mayor of the Dharamsala Municipal Corporation Devinder Jaggi, called on the Chief Minister and urged him to consider shifting government offices operating from rented accommodation at various locations, including Shimla, to its vacant buildings in Dharamsala. The Chief Minister assured the delegation that appropriate action would be taken on their request. They said that the decision would help reduce financial burden on the state government and also decongest some urban areas.
The office of the Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education was one major establishment that was shifted from Shimla to Dharamsala in January 1983. Since then, successive governments had talked about shifting its offices from Shimla to other districts but there had been no headway.
Sukhu had hinted that some offices, especially those running from rented accommodation, would be shifted out of Shimla. This would not only lessen financial burden on the government but would also help decongest the state capital.
