AI, robotics redefining future of global innovation: Expert

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Sardar Patel University, Mandi, on Tuesday hosted an insightful expert lecture on “The Role of Computer Vision in AI and Robotics”, delivered by renowned academician Prof Navin Rajpal from Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University, New Delhi.

The session began with a warm welcome from Prof Rajesh Kumar Sharma, Dean Students’ Welfare, followed by the ceremonial felicitation of the distinguished speaker by Dr Sunil Verma, Controller of Examinations.

In his keynote address, Prof Rajpal offered a comprehensive overview of how computer vision integrates with artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics, illustrating its transformative influence across key sectors such as healthcare, manufacturing and autonomous transport. He emphasised the critical role of machine-based visual perception in enabling intelligent automation, describing computer vision as “the eyes and intelligence” of modern robotics. Through engaging real-world case studies and insights from cutting-edge research, he highlighted how visual data processing is paving the way for more capable and context-aware robotic systems.

Vice-Chancellor Prof Lalit Kumar Awasthi, in a special message, praised the relevance of the lecture’s theme, noting, “Artificial intelligence and robotics are not just emerging technologies—they are redefining the future of global innovation.”
