This actress needs no introduction. She is one of the richest South Indian actresses and has been part of numerous blockbusters over the years. There was a time when she couldn’t even afford to pay her school fees, but today, she has even turned down an alimony offer of Rs 200 crore. Born in Kerala, her family couldn’t afford to pay her 12th-grade fees. To support her household, she took on small, odd jobs and began part-time modelling. One day, filmmaker Ravi Varman noticed her and introduced her to films. That’s how Samantha Ruth Prabhu began her acting career, debuting with the 2010 film Ye Maaya Chesave, and she hasn’t looked back since.

In an old interview with News 18, Samantha recalled her childhood saying, “When I was studying, my mom and dad told me to study hard, and you will make it big. I studied hard. I topped 10th standard, 12th standard, and college. But then, when I wanted to study further, my parents could not afford it. I had no dreams, no future, nothing”. She added, “I ate one meal a day for at least two months. I worked odd jobs. And I’m here today”.

Prabhu has acted in more than 65 Tamil and Telugu films. Interestingly, Samantha was inspired by Hollywood icon Audrey Hepburn.

It was in Sukumar’s 2021 film Pushpa: The Rise that Samantha Ruth Prabhu made a special appearance in the item song Oo Antava. The hook step featuring Samantha and Allu Arjun became hugely popular. It also became a defining moment in Samantha’s career, with many people starting to refer to her as the “Oo Antava girl.”


Initially, Nora Fatehi was confirmed to feature in the song, but later it was finalised that Samantha would perform it. She reportedly earned Rs 5 crore for her five-minute appearance.

Pushpa: The Rise was made on a budget of Rs 200 crore, and it earned Rs 393.5 crore worldwide.
