Big worry for bankrupt Pakistan as Russia stands strongly with India, Shehbaz Sharif’s envoy rushes to Moscow to…, Putin asks Islamabad to…
Moscow: The Pahalgam terrorist attack has sent shockwaves across the globe. The cowardly assault on innocent tourists has drawn strong condemnation from major world leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who denounced the bloody attack. India has received support from around the world, with the exception of China and Turkey. In the midst of this, a statement from Russia has caused a stir in Pakistan. Following the attack, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko met with India’s Ambassador to Russia on Monday. Russia announced that it is fully prepared to join hands with India to deliver a strong response to the threat of global terrorism.
Indian Ambassador Vinay Kumar briefed the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister on the latest situation after the Pahalgam attack. Disturbed by Russia’s move, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif sent his envoy to also meet with the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister.
The Vladimir Putin-led Russian government has said that its Deputy Foreign Minister met with Pakistan’s Ambassador, Mohammad Khalid Jamali, at the ambassador’s request. During the meeting, they discussed various aspects of bilateral cooperation between Russia and Pakistan, as well as efforts to reduce escalating tensions between Islamabad and New Delhi. These tensions flared after the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, where militants shot and killed 28 people. In its statement, Russia mentioned that the Deputy Foreign Minister urged both sides to exercise restraint.
Discussion Between India and Russia on Pakistan
The Putin administration has asked both India and Pakistan to engage in constructive dialogue and resolve their mutual disputes through peaceful means. This comes after a meeting between the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister and the Indian Ambassador, where the current situation in South Asia was discussed, including the rapidly deteriorating relations between India and Pakistan. India has also confirmed that Russia is willing to jointly combat terrorism. Recently, in an interview with Russia’s news agency RIA Novosti, Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif stated that countries like Russia, China, or Western powers could play a significant role in easing the tensions.
Pakistan’s Defence Minister had also demanded that Russia, China, or other Western countries be involved in the investigation of the Pahalgam terror attack to determine whether
“India is telling the truth or lying.” Shehbaz Sharif also called for an international investigation into the Pahalgam attack. Meanwhile, amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan over the Pahalgam incident, senior diplomats from Russia and China met here to discuss counter-terrorism efforts. While the Russian Foreign Ministry did not directly mention the Pahalgam attack, it indicated that the meeting held on Saturday included discussions on the situation in South Asia.
