WhatsApp will stop working on these Apple iPhones from…, check if your device is in it, full list here

WhatsApp will soon phase out support for older iPhones after which certain users will not be able to access the messaging app. From May 2025, iPhones running on iOS 15.1 or earlier will no longer be supporting WhatsApp. While the app currently supports devices like iOS 12 and above, the upcoming change will reduce its compatibility and affect models like the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus.

Reason Behind Change?

Apple has taken this decision mainly due to security reasons. Apple has stopped releasing updates for older iOS versions so these devices are vulnerable to security risks. The risk is there of data breaches and malware. After support is taken out, WhatsApp asks users to upgrade to newer devices or install the latest software for a safer messaging experience.

Whatsapp Privacy Features

Over recent months, WhatsApp has introduced several new features to enhance privacy and security like:

Privacy Layers: Restrictions on copying text, images, or videos from chats and groups to stop misuse of sensitive information.

Chat Lock: An advanced tool to protect specific conversations using a password, fingerprint, or Face ID.

Disappearing Messages: Improved options for automatically deleting messages after a set time, giving users more control over their chat history.

Silence Unknown Callers: To block calls from unknown or spam numbers.

Privacy Checkup: Easy-to-use guide within the app that helps users understand and customize their privacy settings.

While WhatsApp has made these features to make their platform more safe, some older devices may not support them due to hardware updates. Features like advanced biometric authentication or higher processing power may not function on old devices.

With iOS 15 now considered outdated and three generations behind Apple’s latest software, it’s becoming increasingly challenging for older iPhones to meet modern app requirements. Users who are still using devices like the iPhone 5s or iPhone 6 can be upgraded to newer models like the iPhone 13 or iPhone 14.
