CPI MP Urges Special Parliament Session on Pahalgam Attack, Congress Faces Internal Rifts

In response to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Communist Party of India MP P. Santosh Kumar has written to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, demanding a special session of Parliament. Santosh emphasized that in this critical moment, Parliament must unite, pay tribute to the victims, and reaffirm the nation's resolve against terrorism. He stated that the issue of national security must be discussed seriously and with one voice.According to sources, the Congress party is mobilizing support from all opposition parties for the demand of a special parliamentary session on the matter. However, internal disagreements have surfaced within the Congress itself. A public spat broke out between Congress leaders Udit Raj and Shashi Tharoor after Tharoor, while discussing the Pahalgam attack, stated that even top intelligence agencies like Israel’s couldn’t prevent the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.Udit Raj questioned Tharoor’s remarks and accused him of sounding like a BJP spokesperson. In response, Tharoor clarified he speaks only for himself, not for any party. The Congress party has distanced itself from this internal controversy, stating that such remarks are individual opinions and not the official stand of the party.
