Mark Carney’s Liberal Party Wins Canada Elections 2025

Ottawa: Prime Minister Mark Carney’s Liberal Party won Canada’s general elections on Monday (local time). Carey had taken over from Justin Trudeau. Notably, Trudeau resigned towards the end of his term after his party lost faith in him.

This is the first time a party has retained power for the fourth time a rarity in Canadian politics. The Canadian polls were contested in the wake of Tariff threats from United States President Donald Trump.

Carney's Tweet:

Canada has been dealing with a cost-of-living crisis for some time. For the unversed, over 75 per cent of the country's exports go to the US, Due to this, Trump's threat to impose sweeping tariffs and his desire to get North American automakers to move Canada's production south could severely damage the Canadian economy.

Mark Carney's Video Message Before The Result:

As per Canada's national public broadcaster, the Liberals will win more of Parliament's 343 seats than the Conservatives. However, it is still not clear if the Liberals will win an outright majority.

Before Trump started targeting Canada's economy and threatening its sovereignty by making statements that it should become the 51st state of the US, the Liberal Party was heading for a crushing defeat. However, after Trump's threats, the feeling of nationalism surged and the Liberals flipped the entire narrative.

Carney On US Before The Polls:

In March this year, Carney declared that the long-standing economic and security relationship between Canada and the United States had ended, responding to the US President's announcement of new auto tariffs that could severely impact Canada's economy, Politico reported.

The old relationship we had with the United States, based on deepening integration of our economies and tight security and military cooperation, is over," Carney had stated on Parliament Hill.
