Addressing the Assembly, Sunil Sharma said Pakistan has been trying to keep its narrative alive through some miscreants, but the people after 35 years have given a strong reply by staying united and sending a message to the world that no ploys could divide them.
Expressing solidarity with the victims of Pahalgam terror attack, Sharma said that Jammu and Kashmir is known as heaven on earth, where people want to spend their memorable moments, but such an incident at this place has shaken the entire humanity. “Entire nation is in shock. People of J&K have raised their voice in unison against terrorism, but we don’t have answers for the people who have lost their dear ones in the attack, especially to the newly married lady, who lost her husband in the attack, the young boy, who lost his father,” he said in his emotional address.
The BJP leader said that not only Jammu & Kashmir, but the entire nation is watching this session of J&K Assembly. “Every single word is being scrutinised at present. We are the people who didn’t eat anything after the attack, but took to streets and sent a message that it may have taken 35 years, but people are united and no ploy can divide us,” he said and added that it was the responsibility of every legislator now to preserve this unity from evil eyes.
Maintaining that there is a strong Government in the Centre and New Delhi has already taken some measures after the attack, Sunil Sharma said that we should have trust on PM and Government of India. “I believe the PM won’t remain silent on the issue and he must have a plan to avenge the killings of innocent persons. We should not be in a hurry and wait to see the response of the Government,” he said.
Sharma added that Pakistan wanted to keep its narrative alive in Kashmir through some miscreants as it has faced defeat thrice since 1947 in conventional wars with India. “The neighbouring country has adopted some miscreants with a plan to keep its narrative alive in the Valley. But, the way people of J&K responded to these miscreants is appreciable,” he said.
In an apparent reference to some members’ raising finger on alleged security lapses and purported attack on J&K students in other parts of the country, Sunil Sharma said that we should avoid anything which lowers the moral of security forces and diverts attention from fight against terrorism. Stray attempts of vitiating atmosphere should not be attributed to entire nation and community, he added.
Sharma also favoured that the legislators should play their role by donating their salaries to the victims or some memorial for the Pahalgam martyrs.
Ghulam Ahmad Mir of Congress Party, while condemning the attack, said that people from every walk of life and every corner of J&K showed that these kinds of acts are despicable. He added that we need to remain united in this difficult time and send a strong message across the world that we will not let these nefarious designs of terrorists succeed.
However, the Congress MLA also pointed towards the alleged security lapses and said that the House members could have grilled the elected Government if J&K was a State having law and order under its control.
“We also need to find out if there was some black sheep in the establishment,” he said and added that measures announced by Government of India should not remain mere announcements but needed to be implemented at ground level.
Sajad Gani Lone of People’s Conference said that people from every area and section unequivocally condemned this cowardly and brutal act and this was for the first time in last 35 years that acceptance of such kind of violence has been completely negated by the people of Kashmir Valley.
“We have had been witnessing such violence for the last 35 years and some people were even legitimizing the same. But this barbaric incident has awaken the entire community and put an apparent end to social acceptance of terror activities,” he said and added that thousands of Sheikh Aadil were needed in fight against terrorism and defeat violence.
Urging media to play positive role, Sajad Lone said: “Let us not do what terrorists want us to do”. He also suggested offering guardianship to next of the kin of the deceased of Pahalgam massacre.
Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami said such a heinous act cannot be explained in words saying that terrorists have no religion. “There are some elements who want to divide people and the House needs to send a clear message that we are one,” he said.
Stressing that without involving elected representatives of Jammu and Kashmir in decision making, initiatives in fight against terrorism will not be fruitful, Tarigami also expressed his reservation over demolishing houses of those allegedly associated with terror activities.
Altaf Ahmad Wani (Kaloo) of NC strongly condemned the terror attack saying that after 25 years such an incident has happened in Pahalgam and words are less to condemn this brutal act. He added that people of Kashmir, especially Pahalgam, need to be appreciated for providing selfless services and care to the injured tourists and others.
Muzaffar Iqbal Khan said no words were enough to condemn this cowardly act which has shaken the whole humanity. However, he expressed his reservations over evicting even those who have residing here since decades and are not part of terror echo-system.
“We condemn terrorism but tell us whose cause you promote by targeting people on basis of religion,” he said and added that demolishing houses will not dismantle terror ecosystem.
Waheed ur Rehman Parra of PDP said that Pahalgam massacre was a crime against humanity and not only a terrorist act. He added that people from all walks of Kashmir condemned it and showed that they are against terrorism through a series of peaceful rallies and candle light marches.
He demanded martyr status for that victims of Pahalgam terror attack and lauded Hindus for showing patience. Entire nation has shown how a community behaves in crisis, he said.
Shabir Ahmad Kullay also condemned this inhuman act in strongest words and paid glowing tributes to the victims of Pahalgam attack. Admitting that there were some people supporting the violence, he said that the Pahalgam incident has changed the narrative and everyone was pro-India now.
Stressing that elected Chief Minister should have the domain over law and order, the legislator said that it was right time to restore statehood to J&K.
Sheikh Khursheed, while paying homage to the victims, said that memorials for victims should be established in Pahalgam. He requested all the MLAs to contribute for this memorial out of their salaries.
Mehraj Malik of AAP strongly condemned the gruesome terror attack and said that we need to be united and not let just four persons disturb the social fabric of our country.
“Scar left by Pak Muslim terrorists on our forehead will take years to erase. Enough is enough and if Pakistan is not replied in bullet to bullet language, there will be no end to such terror acts,” he thundered and strongly pitched for militarily attacking Pakistan.
