Bhuttico announces pay hikes, expansion plans

During the 85th Annual General House meeting of Bhutti Weavers Cooperative Society Ltd., popularly known as Bhuttico, vice-chairman Rohit Thakur announced several key initiatives aimed at strengthening the livelihoods of weavers and employees. Bhuttico, a pioneer in the handloom weaving sector, continues to make strides toward enhancing its operations and member welfare.

Addressing the gathering, Thakur announced a 5 percent increase in weaving rates for artisans, a move designed to boost the earnings of weavers. Additionally, the previously withheld salary increment for employees has been reinstated, reaffirming the Society’s commitment to its workforce.

The vice-chairman highlighted Bhuttico’s strong financial performance, reporting total product sales of Rs 13.22 crore for the fiscal year — a Rs 45 lakh increase over the previous year. He extended his gratitude to members, employees, and stakeholders for their collective efforts in achieving this milestone.

Presenting the achievements of 2024-25, Thakur noted several strategic initiatives aimed at improving financial health and operational efficiency. Among these, the regularization of two contract employees stood out, reflecting Bhuttico’s dedication to supporting its staff even amid financial challenges.

Looking ahead, Thakur outlined an ambitious Annual Plan for 2025-26. The Society plans to expand its market footprint by participating in national and international exhibitions to showcase its premium handloom products. To optimize resources, Bhuttico will also shut down showrooms operating at a loss.

In a move aligned with changing customer preferences, Bhuttico will focus on producing affordable handloom products made from local wool, thus preserving traditional craftsmanship while catering to contemporary markets. Thakur further announced that awareness camps will be organized to foster stronger coordination among weavers, members, and employees.

The meeting opened with a two-minute silence to honor those who passed away during the year, including the victims of the tragic terrorist attack at Pahalgam and notable figures connected to the Society, such as the wife of Kullu Assistant Registrar Rajesh Jaswal and the wife of Vice-Chairman Mohar Singh.
