Baijnath railway station on fast track to transformation

The redevelopment of Baijnath Paprola railway station is progressing at a rapid pace. The station is being renovated under the Amrit Bharat Yojana, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2024. The foundation stone for this project was also laid virtually by the PM the same year.

Baijnath Paprola is among 554 railway stations across the country undergoing a major facelift, which includes the construction of platforms, overbridges, parking lots, enhanced passenger facilities and the replacement of old station buildings. The renovation work is expected to be completed within the next six months.

Speaking to The Tribune, a railway official said once the Baijnath Paprola station is redeveloped to world-class standards, it will significantly boost the state’s tourism industry, attracting more visitors to Shiv Bhoomi Baijnath.

In the recent Union Budget, a record allocation of Rs 4,000 crore was made for the development of railways in Himachal Pradesh—25 times more than the average annual allocation of Rs 108 crore during 2009–2014, when the UPA was in power.

Over the past five years, 55 route km have been electrified in the state. Additionally, the Vande Bharat Express is now operating between Delhi and Amb in Una district, providing residents with fast, easy and convenient travel. Amb Andaura railway station is also being redeveloped to offer state-of-the-art facilities. These initiatives aim to give a fresh impetus to railway infrastructure and connectivity across state.
