5-year-old gangraped before murder

The Jind police have arrested four persons, including a minor, in the case of gangrape of a 35-year-old woman and her five-year-old daughter, and the child’s murder.

The police informed that the accused had been identified as Hameed Khan (46), Biru (18), Shiva (19) and a 13-year-old boy. The police produced the three accused in the court, which sent them to one-day police remand. The minor has been detained for juvenile proceedings.

The incident occurred on the night of April 21, when the main accused Khan had a heated argument with the woman. Later, the accused, along with three others, returned in the thick of night and sexually assaulted her and her daughter. The daughter was later strangled.

The husband of the woman, who works as a ragpicker, was not at home at the time of the incident. Sources said the accused had dragged the woman to a garbage dump, and hearing her screams, the child got up and followed her. She was assaulted and killed by the accused. The postmortem report confirmed that the child had been gangraped before her death.

The police said the family buried the girl’s body, which was exhumed after her mother regained consciousness and complained to the police.

The police registered a case under the BNS and POCSO Act and started investigation.
