Bus passenger caught with 450g heroin worth Rs 3 crore in Sirsa
A young passenger travelling in a Punjab Roadways bus from Punjab to Sirsa was caught with 450 grams and 9 milligrams of heroin on Monday. The police had received a tip off about drug activity near Nejadela village on Barnala Road.
Acting on the information, Sub-Inspector Naresh Kumar set up a blockade at the Panihari village bus stand, where the drugs were found in the passenger’s bag. The heroin seized has an estimated market value of around Rs 3 crore.
Police sources report that when the bus from Sardulgarh arrived, a passenger carrying a black bag stepped out and acted suspiciously on seeing the police. The officers stopped him for questioning and he identified himself as Gurpreet Singh, a resident of Ludhiana, Punjab. On searching his bag, the police found heroin wrapped in paper.
During interrogation, Gurpreet revealed that he was instructed by a person named Neelam, also known as Neelu, from near the Mansa bus stand. He was asked to transport the heroin from Sardulgarh to Sirsa for delivery. Following this, the police registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and began investigation.
