After Thiruvananthapuram airport, Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan’s office, residence receive bomb threats

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan’s office and official residence, Cliff House, received bomb threat messages on Monday. The threat messages come a day after hoax bomb threats were received by Thiruvananthapuram airport and railway station.
According to reports, the Kerala chief minister’s residence and his office received the threats via email. Earlier on Monday, the Kerala secretariat and transport commissioner’s office also received bomb threat messages. Police have deployed bomb detection and disposal squad and searches are underway at the targeted premises.
Prominent places in the state capital have been receiving hoax threat messages during the past few weeks. On Sunday, the state police acted swiftly after Thiruvananthapuram International Airport’s airport manager received a threat message in his email. The Thiruvananthapuram police and Central Industrial Security Force personnel intensified security checks on the airport premises following the threat. Dog squad and bomb disposal and detection units were deployed. However, the threat turned out to be a hoax.
Similarly, the Thiruvananthapuram city traffic control room received an anonymous threat message targeting the railway station on Sunday. Police and Railway Protection Force personnel conducted necessary checks on the premises and determined it was a hoax. However, train services were not disrupted.
Prominent places in Kerala’s capital have been receiving hoax threat messages for the past few weeks. On Saturday, two luxury hotels in the city received threats. The recent spree of hoax threats comes as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to visit the city for the inauguration of various development projects on May 2. Modi will dedicate Vizhinjam port to the nation on the day.
The Cochin International Airport also received a bomb threat message on Monday and security personnel conducted thorough checks of the airport premises. "RDX-based explosive device has been clandestinely planted at the CIAL! Evacuate All by 2PM!” read the email received at 7.53am on Monday. Airport authorities have registered a complaint with the police.
