Hyundai’s i10 Crosses 3.3 Million Sales Globally, Reinforcing ‘Make in India’ Success Story
New Delhi — Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has announced a major milestone for its popular hatchback, the i10, which has now surpassed 3.3 million units in cumulative global sales. The achievement highlights the success of Hyundai’s “Make in India, Made for the World” vision, with over 2 million units sold in the domestic market and more than 1.3 million exported to over 140 countries.
The i10 has become one of Hyundai’s most successful nameplates, especially in international markets like South Africa, Mexico, Chile, and Peru. Hyundai’s strategic focus on exports has helped it maintain its position as India’s largest exporter of passenger vehicles, with exports contributing over 20% to the company’s overall sales.
“We are proud of the landmark achievement of surpassing 3 million cumulative sales of HMIL’s brand i10,” said Unsoo Kim, Managing Director of HMIL. “This milestone reflects the trust of our customers and the strength of Indian manufacturing. With our new plant in Maharashtra, we aim to further boost exports and solidify India’s role as a global manufacturing hub.”
What sets the i10 apart is its high degree of localization—over 91% of the car’s components are sourced domestically for both Indian and export versions. This not only strengthens Hyundai’s local supply chain but also reinforces its commitment to India’s manufacturing ecosystem.
Launched in 2007, the i10 has gone through three generations—starting with the original i10, followed by the Grand i10, and now the Grand i10 NIOS. Currently, the model is offered with three powertrain options: a 1.2L Kappa Petrol manual, 1.2L Kappa Petrol AMT, and a 1.2L Bi-Fuel Kappa Petrol with CNG. On average, over 100,000 i10 units are sold in India every year.
Over the years, the i10 has continuously evolved to meet customer expectations, offering a blend of safety, technology, and practicality. The latest generation comes equipped with features like six airbags, ABS with EBD, TPMS-Highline, ESC, cruise control, wireless phone charging, and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The i10’s success story reflects Hyundai’s long-term commitment to India as both a key market and a manufacturing base for global operations.
