Viral Video Of Gujarati Actor Eating 'Khaman' On Floor At Surat Airport Sparks Debate On Civic Sense

A video featuring Gujarati actor Hitesh Thakkar eating khaman on the floor at Surat Airport has gone viral, sparking a fresh debate about civic sense and public decorum in India. The video, shared widely on social media, shows Thakkar and his friends sitting on the floor of the airport terminal with newspapers spread underneath them. The group is seen enjoying a traditional snack, khaman, before boarding their flight to Pattaya, Thailand.

In the video, Thakkar casually talks about the experience, saying, "We don’t see the place when it comes to eating. This is Surat Airport, and my friends got delicious khaman. We are sitting on the floor and eating before boarding our flight to Pattaya, Thailand."

The original post was shared by an X handle, @AgentSaffron, who wrote, “Proud of this Indian uncle who upheld his traditional diet and eating style in the airport gate before boarding flight to Bangkok. Be proud of your roots.”

In another post a user named @ThenNowForeve posted the same video with a caption that reads, “Due to people like them ,the rest of Indians get racially abused.”

In total the video has got more than 3 million views igniting the discussion over lack of civic sense in the public areas.

While some are defending the actor's decision as a display of cultural pride, others are questioning the lack of regard for cleanliness and appropriate behavior in public spaces.

One of the users commented, “I also proud of my eating habits and will encourage to do it. But, No this uncle is not doing good, it is this kind of encouragement which helps people us make bad. Do this at your home or at right place. Boarding gate is not your home and not a restaurant.”

The video quickly gained traction, amassing nearly four lakh views and igniting a discussion over civic sense in public places. Several users slammed Thakkar for disrupting fellow flyers at the airport, with one commenting, “What a waste fellow. He belongs to the 75% Indians who are uncivilized.”

Another user wrote, “You haven't travelled with some Gujju uncles, then. Some of the most hospitable and fun loving folks in the world. Peacefully having their snacks. If you hang around in the vicinity they will insist you join them. Makes any long journey easier.”
