Socialist unity centre marks foundation day
The Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) on Sunday marked its 78th foundation day with a state-level public function at Krishna Bhawan in Rohtak. The event was presided over by Anoop Singh Matanhail, a member of the state secretariat and a farmers’ leader. Central Committee member Pratap Shamal attended the programme as the chief speaker, along with state secretary Rajendra Singh.
Addressing the gathering, Shamal criticised both Central and state governments by describing them “anti-people” and “pro-capitalist”.
“Due to anti-people policies, hardworking citizens are suffering under the burden of rising inflation and unemployment. Farmers and labourers are being forced to commit suicide under the weight of debt. Trade union rights have been abolished through new labour codes. Scheme workers are not even being paid minimum wages. Dissent is being crushed and divisive conspiracies are being hatched in the name of caste and religion,” he alleged.
Anoop Singh, in his presidential address, said capitalism was the root cause of all societal problems and that the only solution lay in a socialist revolution. He emphasised that SUCI (Communist) was actively organising movements, both independently and through public committees, in opposition to capitalist policies.
The party condemned the recent hikes in electricity tariffs and toll taxes in Haryana. He also called for a united movement to demand legal implementation of MSP based on the C2 + 50 formula and resist the new agricultural market policies.
