Dr Karan Singh releases biography of Dr MC Davar

NEW DELHI, Apr 27: A book on the biography of freedom fighter and senior Congress leader, Dr M C Davar was released by former Union Minister Dr Karan Singh in a function held at the India International Centre here on last evening.
Written by his youngest son, Capt Praveen Davar, the book contains many unknown facts about India’s freedom struggle and behind the scene activities to prevent partition of the nation. Initiating the discussions on this unique book, Capt Davar stated how the last Viceroy Lord Louis Mountbatten was hand in glove with the Pakistan seeking Mohd Ali Jinnah to split the subcontinent. Both these luminaries had played a dubious role.
While speaking on the occasion, the chief guest, former Union Minister Dr Karan Singh recounted his association with Dr Davar and the latter’s contributions to peace and harmony among the various communities in India, working for refugee rehabilitation, grant of recognition of homeopathy as a proper medium of medical attention.
Dr Karan Singh mentioned that Dr Davar was a shining example of Indian secularism and sacrifices for the nation. He also mentioned how the refugees who came with virtually nothing on their bodies are today enjoying prosperity. This is because they were allotted not only houses but also huge industrial plots and agriculture lands by the Nehru Govt which became possible because of leaders like Dr M C Davar who made tireless efforts for the rehabilitation of displaced persons and ensured they get proper compensation.
Former Union Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar highlighted Dr Davar’s role in our freedom struggle and how the latter was inspired by Netaji Subash Chander Bose and Pt Jawaharlal Nehru. He also commended Dr Davar for his sacrifices in the rehabilitation of the lakhs of refugees who came to India from West Punjab.
Carrying forward the discussions on the book, former Chief Information Commissioner Wajahat Habibullah stated that he was a proud Indian Muslim and Muslims had played a significant role in India’s freedom struggle.
Renowned Defence analyst and a distinguished soldier Lt Gen Kamal Davar who is Dr Davar’s eldest son narrated how he was sent to the Army by his father to serve the nation despite the fact that Dr Davar was a well known pacifist and was working for Indo- Pak amity.
The function commenced with the attendees observing a two-minute silence to pay their respects to the memory of 26 tourists murdered by cross border terrorists on Pahalgam on April 22.
