Uncertainty looms over repatriation of BSF jawan

Uncertainty looms over the repatriation of the BSF jawan Purnam Kumar Sahu, who was apprehended by Pakistani Rangers on Wednesday afternoon after he inadvertently crossed the zero line near the border outpost Jallo Ke in this sector.

Though the BSF authorities have remained tight-lipped over the matter till now, sources said the BSF had strongly taken up the issue with Pakistani Rangers. The latter have, however, not responded to the subsequent BSF calls, saying the matter was under consideration of the higher authorities and were dilly-dallying his release.

According to information, the Pakistani side neither turned up for the last flag meeting scheduled with the BSF nor did it confirm the timeline for the next meeting.

Pregnant wife to meet authorities for release

Meanwhile, Rajani, the distraught wife of Purnam, who is reportedly pregnant, is scheduled to arrive here to press the authorities to intensify efforts to bring back her husband. Sources said Sahu’s wife would board the Amritsar Mail on Sunday evening, which travels to Ferozepur from Howrah via Pathankot

The parents of Sahu, who hail from the Harisabha area of Rishra in West Bengal’s Hooghly, said they had appealed to the Central government to do all the needful to ensure their son’s return.
