Briefs: Man held with country-made pistol in Samba
Jammu: An alleged criminal was arrested along with a country-made pistol in Samba district on Sunday, police said. Vishal Sharma alias Vishu shooter, a resident of Khojipur Kheri village, was the main accused in an attempted murder incident that took place in Vijaypur area of the district on April 20, a police spokesperson said.
He said Shivdeep Singh, a resident of Suchani Bagla village, had lodged a complaint at Vijaypur police station, claiming that he was fired upon by six people in Rahya village, leading to registration of a case.
A country-made pistol was recovered at the disclosure of the arrested accused, the spokesperson said, adding that further probe is on to nab the other attackers.
Medical student hangs self in hostel room
Jammu: A 22-year-old MBBS student committed suicide inside his hostel room in Government Medical College (GMC) here on Sunday, officials said. Falak Sayed Khan, a resident of Harni village in Poonch’s Mendhar area, was found hanging with the ceiling fan inside the boys hostel of the GMC at Bakshi Nagar after the door of his room was forcibly opened, the officials said. They said Khan was in the second-year of his course and the motive behind his extreme step was not known immediately
Shanties gutted in fire at Kathua
Jammu: At least a dozen shanties were gutted in a massive fire in Kathua, an official said. The shanties, housing migrant labourers, were gutted at ward number 21 late Saturday night, leaving many families homeless and in urgent need of assistance, the official said. In a swift response, all 12 affected families were provided essential supplies, the official said, adding the district administration will ensure all necessary support to them.”
