Railway Special Provisions: Railways has taken a big decision to make train travel easier for senior citizens, women and disabled people. Indian Railways has started some special provisions for vulnerable passengers.

Under this, there is an effort to provide lower berths in trains for senior citizens, women aged 45 years and above and disabled people. Apart from this, there is an effort to make other facilities including wheelchairs and help desks better and comfortable for these passengers.

Special provision for every coach

According to a report by ET, recently the railways have introduced many such special provisions which include allotment of lower berths to senior citizens, women and disabled people. Under this, 6-7 berths in every coach in sleeper class, while 4-5 seats in third AC are reserved for these passengers. At the same time, 3-4 lower berths are also reserved for these passengers in 2A coach. However, the number of reserved berths depends on the number of coaches in the train.

According to the report, senior citizens, women of 45 years or above and pregnant women are automatically allotted lower berths by the railways at the time of booking. However, it also depends on the availability of lower berths. This ensures that these passengers do not face any inconvenience during the journey.

Special facilities for the disabled

Apart from this, the Railways has also made special arrangements for the disabled people. Reserve quota has been imposed in all express trains including premier class like Rajdhani and Shatabdi. Under this, four berths (at least two lower berths) in sleeper class, four berths (including two lower berths) in 3AC/3E and four seats in reserved second sitting (2S) or air-conditioned chair car (CC) are included.

Also, if any lower berth is vacant during the journey, then only women, senior citizens and disabled passengers will be given priority in it.

Along with berth reservation, Indian Railways is also continuously working on improving station facilities. Facilities like wheelchairs, help counters and ramps are being expanded at big stations to make boarding and deboarding of passengers easier. So that the journey can be made even more convenient for all passengers.
