Why is Maharashtra Day celebrated?

May 1 is celebrated as Maharashtra Day. Actually, on May 1, 1960, the Bombay state was reorganized and Maharashtra and Gujarat came into existence as two separate states. After the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement, the state of Maharashtra was created for Marathi-speaking people.

Banks will remain closed for 8 days in May

According to RBI, bank holidays in India fall into two major categories. First- holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act and second- holidays due to closing of bank accounts. There will be a total of 8 bank holidays in the month of May. Apart from national and regional holidays, it also includes holidays on Sundays and second and fourth Saturdays of every month.
