Anti-encroachment drive begins in Hisar
Hisar Mayor Praveen Popli led the drive launched by the Municipal Corporation Hisar to remove encroachments from various places in the town on Saturday.
The MC team headed by Popli began the anti-encroachment drive from Sirsa Chungi till Jindal Chowk. He was accompanied by officials from the PWD (Public Works Department), B&R, Public Health Department, HSVP, DHBVN and the police.
While initiating the campaign, the Mayor said displayed items and goods of the shopkeepers will not be forcefully removed. “Instead, we are asking people politely to remove their items,” he said. The campaign began with the removal of stalls and carts in front of the Housing Board on Sirsa Road. Instructions were also given to remove a tea stall in front of the BJP district office and the nearby construction debris.
At the New Grain Market, the vendors selling fruits and vegetables near the main gate were also asked to vacate the site and the encroachments near the market were cleared and the shopkeepers were urged to keep their goods within their premises.
At Sector 14, close to the Gate No. 1 and near Civil Hospital, ambulances parked outside were moved and roadside stalls were cleared. Again, the shopkeepers were requested to keep their goods within designated areas. At the bus stand’s main gate, the vendors were similarly advised to stay away from the road area to ensure smooth flow of traffic.
At Nagauri Gate near the gurdwara, the vendors occupying the footpath were also removed while the fruit vendors and others were asked to pull their goods back inside. The officials will inspect the area again to ensure there was no re-encroachment.
At Parijat Chowk, the bag and cycle vendors were told to confine their items within their allotted spaces. At Subhash Market, seeing power wires hanging from poles, the team directed power officials to remove such dangerous setups city-wide. Later, two youths were caught sticking pamphlets of an educational institution illegally so action was ordered against the institution’s operator. Other places— from Pushpa Complex and Jindal Chowk to near Sun City, pavements— and other areas were freed from unauthorised occupation. The Mayor also appealed to the residents and shopkeepers to voluntarily remove any encroachments stating that the drive would continue in the town.
