7 women among 9 killed in two accidents in Nuh

Seven sanitation workers, including six women and a man, engaged in cleaning work were killed, while four other women workers were critically injured after a speeding pickup vehicle hit them near Ibrahimbas village on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway under Ferozpur Jhirka police station in Nuh district on Saturday morning.

The accident was so severe that five women labourers were killed on the spot, while two died during treatment. The injured are being treated in hospital. The accused driver of the pickup vehicle was arrested and an FIR has been registered at the Ferozpur Jhirka police station. Nuh DC Vishram Kumar Meena said all possible financial help would be given to the affected families.

In another accident, a man and a woman were killed while another woman was critically injured after a speeding private bus hit an auto rickshaw near the Akeda police station on the Gurugram-Alwar highway in Nuh. The deceased and injured haven’t been identified yet.

The first accident took place around 10 am when about 11 sanitation workers were cleaning the expressway. Suddenly, a speeding pickup vehicle going from Delhi to Alwar hit them. The collision was so severe that five women workers died on the spot while two others, a man and a woman later died in hospital during treatment. Locals immediately informed the police and helped in taking the injured to the hospital. Nuh SP Rajesh Kumar also went to the spot and inspected the scene.

The deceased have been identified as Resham (60), Prem (60), Ratna (40), Pista (30), Jaidei (40), Satanbati (30), residents of Kheri Kalan village under Pinangwa police station and Aas Mohammad (45), a resident of Jhimrawat village under the Ferozpur Jhirka police station. The injured have been identified as Lajjawati (41), Hemlata (37) and Jagwati (32), all residents of Kheri Kalan village. They were referred to Delhi due to their critical condition. Another injured, Anita (32), a resident of Rigad village, is being admitted to a medical college, Nalhar.

“An FIR was registered against the accused pickup driver under relevant sections of the BNS at the Ferozpur Jhirka police station. The arrested accused is identified as Monu, a resident of Mohammadpur village in Mahendergarh," said the spokesperson of Nuh police.

DC Vishram Kumar Meena said the road accident that happened this morning on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway was heart-wrenching. This road accident would be investigated and appropriate action would be taken after finding out the real causes of the accident, he added.

“Illegal cuts on the expressway would be closed soon. Soon, a trauma center would be established which is approved by the government," said DC Meena.
