Clear waste, improve public toilets in Tilak Nagar on priority: Minister

Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa conducted an inspection of Tilak Nagar here on Saturday.

During the visit, he emphasised the urgent need to clear garbage, improve the condition of public toilets and address the unauthorised occupation of parks and public spaces.

Sirsa, who was accompanied by the local MLA, residents and officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) and Revenue Department, directed officials to act swiftly.

“Roads have been encroached upon, shops and dhabas have been built illegally and parks have been taken over by illegally parked vehicles. Moreover, junked cars are cluttering public spaces. These must be removed on a priority basis,” he said, giving officials a one-week deadline to address the issues.

Raising concerns over poor sanitary conditions at public toilets and Sulabh Shauchalayas in the area, the Minister instructed officials to ensure prompt and lasting improvements.

Highlighting the government’s broader vision for Delhi, Sirsa said: “With the ‘triple-engine government’, we resolve to clean Delhi’s filth, end mismanagement and work towards a ‘Viksit Delhi.’ We should focus on addressing problems and learning from them rather than indulging in blame games.”

Interacting with residents, Sirsa announced plans to develop a sports complex in Tilak Nagar to enhance recreational facilities for the community. “There is a pressing need for a sports complex in Tilak Nagar. We are working towards developing it to ensure better amenities for the residents,” he said.

The inspection reflects the Government of NCT of Delhi’s commitment, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, to transforming Delhi into a pollution-free, world-class city. Officials from several departments participated in the coordinated inspection to ensure a comprehensive response to civic issues.
