Slain Shaurya Chakra awardee’s son shot at by armed assailants
Slain Shaurya Chakra awardee Balwinder Singh’s son, Gagandeep Singh (45), was allegedly shot at by two car-borne persons when he was returning home from a market this evening.
Balwinder Singh was shot dead in 2020 by armed gangsters in his school complex. He was awarded Shaurya Chakra for his fight against militancy.
Gagandeep, in his complaint to the Bhikhiwind police, said the accused fired at him, though he narrowly escaped in the incident.
DSP Preetinder Singh said the police had initiated investigation in this regard. Meanwhile, Jagadish Kaur, mother of Gagandeep Singh, alleged that the police were not sincere in providing protection to the family as despite repeated requests to the police, the family had not been given adequate security.
She urged the Central government to provide them security. She alleged that the security provided to them by the Punjab Police usually remained absent, expressing fear for the life of her family.
