Jerath appointed on boxing federation interim committee
The Interim Committee of the Boxing Federation of India (formed by World Boxing) has appointed Dr CK Jerath, chairman, Chandigarh Amateur Boxing Association, as one of the members of the committee.
The chairman of Interim Committee, in its order, said, “I firmly believe that their insights and guidance will provide invaluable support to our efforts and contribute significantly to the future growth and success of Indian Boxing.”
Dr Jerath has been associated with the National Federation for nearly five decades and was elected office-bearers for several terms. He represented the country as technical official in Beijing Olympics (2008), London Olympic (2012) and three Common wealth Games — Melbourne 2006, Delhi 2010 and Gold Coast 2018.
27 matches played at Gully Cricket meet
A total of 27 matches were played during the ongoing Gully Cricket Tournament. In the exhibition matches, the IG XI comprising IPS officers of the Chandigarh Police defeated the Mayors XI consisting of councillors by eight wickets. Batting first, Mayors XI scored 55/7 in 10 overs. Jasbir Laddi (21) and Anoop Gupta (10) scored runs. Lakshay Pandey claimed two wickets for the bowling side. In reply, the winning team achieved the target in the 7th over.
Panjab University defeated Chandigarh Tax Bar Association by 55 runs. PU posted 94/8 with Rakesh Malik and Naveen Mamgain contributing 15 runs each. Adarsh Vir Singh picked two wickets. In reply, the Tax Bar Association was bowled out for 39 runs.
Inter-house events held
Chandigarh: The sports wing of Tribune Model School conducted a series of inter-house events this month. The school organised chess competitions in the age group under- 17 for boys and girls. Principal Rani Poddar motivated the students for striking a balance between both sports and studies. TNS
DAV Club emerge overall champs
Chandigarh: DAV Club was declared overall champions and Rink Rulers runners-up on the concluding day of the Chandigarh State Lawn Bowl Championship 2024-25. It was organised by the Chandigarh Bowling Federation at Hockey Ground, Panjab University. A total of 16 clubs of the city participated in the meet. Its president Anumit Singh Sodhi was the chief guest. He, along with Ranjan Sethi, treasurer, Chandigarh Olympic Association, awarded the winners. TNS
Minerva Academy post 31-0 victory
Mohali: Minerva Academy’s sub-junior team etched their name in the record books, thrashing Baichung Bhutia Football School by an unprecedented 31-0 margin in the Sub-Junior League. The scoring spree began early, with Rimson opening the account and eventually netting an incredible 10 goals to lead the scoring charge. Gurba contributed six goals, while Mamesh and Kipgen both scored five goals each, showcasing the team’s depth and firepower. Bharat School win chess gold
Panchkula: In the recently concluded 15th Panchkula District Chess Championship, the girls’ U-13 team of The Bharat School, Sector 12, claimed gold medal. Kritika, Shanaya Sood, Tara Chhabra, Aarna Pandey and Kavya Mehta represented the team. In the individual category, Dhriti Singla won bronze medal in U- 7 category, while Kritika won a gold in the U-13 event. Tara Chhabra won bronze medal in the U-13 category, while Dhaani Malhotra bagged the bronze in the U- 15 category. Principal Geetika Sethi congratulated all the winners. TNS
New Angel Public shine in yoga
