Truck driver arrested for killing helper in Zirakpur

The police have arrested truck driver Rahul Kumar for allegedly murdering his helper, Chamkaur Singh, near Old Kalka Road on Thursday night. Zirakpur DSP Jaspinder Singh said Rahul Kumar struck Chamkaur multiple times with a rod following a minor altercation. The police have recovered the rod used in the crime from the truck’s toolbox and found bloodstains on it.

The police have registered a case of murder in the matter. The body of Chamkaur Singh, 46, a resident of Samana in Patiala district, was discovered under mysterious circumstances on Old Kalka Road on Friday morning.

According to initial investigation, Chamkaur, who worked as a helper on the truck, had accompanied Rahul Kumar to Zirakpur to unload a consignment of sugarcane. The driver told the police that he was transporting a sugarcane load from Pune and had hired Chamkaur at Samana for assistance. They reportedly reached Zirakpur around 10 pm on Thursday and slept in the cabin of the truck before the incident occurred.
