Cops, educational institutions asked to ensure safety of J&K students
In view of the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam that led to the death of 26 people, including Karnal-based Naval officer Lt Vinay Narwal, on Tuesday, Karnal Deputy Commissioner Uttam Singh directed all SDMs, Tehsildars, Naib Tehsildars, and BDPOs to take steps to prevent any untoward incidents in their areas. Sarpanches of all villages have been instructed to ensure peace and harmony in their villages. Sarpanches, village secretaries, nambardars, and patwaris have been asked to report any suspicious or untoward incidents in their villages.
“All officials have been directed to monitor their areas to maintain peace and harmony. Nobody is allowed to disturb the social fabric,” he said.
The DC said the Superintendent of Police has been asked to take immediate legal action against anyone found spreading misinformation or creating confusion through social media or other platforms regarding the Pahalgam incident. Special instructions have also been issued to ensure the safety of students from Jammu and Kashmir studying at various educational institutions within the district.
Social media is being monitored by the police to check any false information, the DC said.
The DC emphasised that all Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) and SHOs must closely work with social organisations to maintain peace and order in their respective areas. They have been asked to keep a strict vigil on social media platforms to identify and act against those attempting to disturb religious harmony or create communal tension through provocative posts, videos, or other means.
The DC said that any information regarding such activities must be immediately reported to the police and the SDM concerned. Any attempt by miscreants to damage public property must also be reported to the authorities without delay.
Instructions have also been issued to the directors of NDRI, Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College, the District Higher Education Officer, District Education Officer, and the Principal of Government ITI to make all necessary arrangements to protect students from Jammu and Kashmir and ensure an environment of brotherhood and communal harmony in their institutions. They must also provide complete details regarding J&K students to both offices of the DC and the SP without delay.
SP Ganga Ram Punia said their team members were closely monitoring the social media platforms to check the spreading of misinformation.
Alma mater to name wall after Lt Narwal
Saint Kabir Public School, the alma mater of Navy officer Lt Vinay Narwal, who was killed in a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, has announced plans to build a wall named after Lt Narwal so that youngsters can derive inspiration from his story.
Deputy director Angad Singh highlighted Lt Narwal’s journey, saying that a memorial wall dedicated to him would be built on the school campus. “We want every child who sees the wall to remember his spirit, his dreams and his dedication,” he added.
School director Nirmal Jeet Chawla, visibly emotional, recalled Lt Narwal as an outstanding student who not only studied with dedication but also actively participated in co-curricular competitions.
She shared how painful it was to hear of his untimely demise. Lt Narwal began his academic journey at Saint Kabir Public School in the UKG class. As per teachers, he excelled not just in studies but also in sports.
With his tall stature and lively smile, Lt Narwal is remembered as a student who excelled in all fields. Students Desi and Vashu, too, shared their emotions, describing Lt Narwal as a role model, whose life and achievements continue to inspire young minds at Saint Kabir Public School.
