Jammu-Kashmir Police Conduct Raids At Residences Of 64 OGWs, Terrorist Associates Across Srinagar
In a major crackdown, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday conducted extensive searches across Srinagar at the residences of 64 Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and terrorist associates linked to proscribed outfits, in connection with investigations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
According to an official handout issued by the J&K Police, the searches were part of “relentless efforts to dismantle the terrorist ecosystem”. The operations were carried out across various parts of the city targeting individuals involved in multiple cases registered under UAPA.
Srinagar Police said that searches were conducted at the residences of Furkan Farooq Mir and Faizyab Showkat Deewani, both residents of Dalal Mohalla, involved in Case FIR No. 35/2022 of Police Station MR Gunj. Raids were also carried out at the residence of Zubair Gull from Tengpora Zoonimar linked to Case FIR No. 08/2023 of PS Sangam, and Mohammad Yousuf Naqash from Malik Sahib, Safakadal, involved in Case FIR No. 128/2010 of PS Safakadal.
Further, residences of Syed Ahmad Parimoo and Dawood Ahmad Wani, associated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), were searched in connection with Case FIR No. 48/2024 of PS Khanyar. Other LeT associates including Riyaz Ahmad Wani of Degdhar Zoonimar, Rafiq Ahmad Wani, Shabir Ahmad Wani of Babapora Zoonimar, and Wasim Raja Zargar of Degdhar Zoonimar were also targeted during the raids.
Police said searches were also conducted at the houses of Aijaz Ahmad Bhat, Mudasir Nazir Khan, Shoib Nazir Jan (JKLF associate), Ajaz Ahmad Khan (Jaish-e-Mohammed associate), and Liyaqat Husain Dar, Bilal Ahmad Ganie, Musaib Ahmad Dar (ISJK associates).
Residences of Owais Ahmad Bhat and Nazir Ahmad Gudoo, associates of The Resistance Front (TRF), and several others including individuals from Anchar Soura, Khalid Colony Soura, Subzi Mandi Soura, and various localities in Batamaloo, Nowgam, Panthachowk, Bemina, and Parimpora were searched.
Additionally, the houses of individuals such as Nasrullah Mir (released militant), Tariq Ahmad Dar (currently in NIA custody), Ashiq Hussain Baba, Owais Sadiq Thoko, Shabir Ahmad Wani, Idrees Ahmad Khan, Mohammad Ramzan Hazari (released militant), Moiz Khan, and several others in localities like Karan Nagar, Ikhrajpora, Padshahi Bagh, Baghat, Natipora, Chanapora, and Bemina were also searched.
The searches were conducted “in accordance with proper legal procedures in the presence of Executive Magistrates and independent witnesses” under the supervision of senior officers of the J&K Police, the statement added.
Weapons, Documents, Digital Devices Seized In Searches: J&K Police
Police said the searches aimed to seize weapons, documents, digital devices, and other materials with the objective of evidence collection and intelligence gathering “to detect and deter any conspiratorial or terrorist activity against the security of the Nation”.
“This decisive action of J&K Police aims to dismantle the terrorist ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir by identifying and taking legal action against individuals engaged in such anti-national and criminal activities,” the handout stated.
The Srinagar Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and security in the city, adding, “Any individual found furthering the agenda of violence, disruption, or unlawful activities will face strict legal consequences under the law.”
