Delhi Government Sets Deadline For Pakistani Nationals To Exit Capital; Urges Citizens To Report Overstayers

The Delhi Government has set a deadline from April 26 to April 29, 2025, for Pakistani nationals whose visas have been suspended to exit the national capital. In line with the Government of India’s decision to revoke existing visas—except for Long Term Visas (LTVs) and Diplomatic and Official Visas—Delhi’s Home Minister Ashish Sood has urged citizens to assist law enforcement in identifying any Pakistani nationals overstaying in Delhi.

The Delhi Government, led by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, is taking immediate action following the central government’s suspension of visa services for Pakistani nationals. All valid visas for Pakistani nationals, except for the specified categories, have been revoked, and no new visas will be issued. Pakistani nationals are required to leave India by April 29, 2025.

Delhi’s Home Minister Ashish Sood expressed concerns over the security risks posed by the illegal overstays of Pakistani nationals in the capital and called upon residents to cooperate with law enforcement in identifying such individuals. The Home Department of the Government of NCT of Delhi has directed the Delhi Police to work in coordination with other relevant agencies to identify and deport those overstaying in the capital. A press note from the Home Department confirmed that the police are actively engaged in this process.

Sood also appealed to the public to report any information about suspected overstayers to the nearest police station without delay. He emphasised the role of citizens in national security and reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring the safety of all Delhi residents and compliance with visa regulations as set by the Government of India. With this move, the Delhi Government aims to reinforce the security of the national capital while adhering to the central government’s policies regarding the presence of Pakistani nationals in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives.
