In the year 1907, Hakim Hafiz Abdul Majeed, who was the founder of Unani herbal medicine and Hamdard Dawakhana, invented this wonderful drink. At that time in Delhi, people were battling the extreme scorching heat. Several people lost their lives due to diarrhoea and dehydration.

In view of this, Hafiz Abdul Majeed wanted to make a medicine that people could drink every day in summer and invented the magical recipe of Rooh Afza.

The syrup became popular in no time, making a special place for itself in the hearts of the people.

Since Rooh Afza tasted delicious and protected the body from heat, it gradually became a part of every household.

According to The Hindu, the recipe of Rooh Afza is still a secret. However, it is well known that Rooh Afza is made from fruits and vegetables.

In an interview with The Hindu, Hamid Ahmed, CEO of Hamdard, revealed that only three persons know the recipe of Rooh Afza and no changes have been made to the recipe since its discovery.

However, as per a Discovery documentary, Rooh Afza is made from sugar syrup, pineapple, orange juice, and sherbet extract, which is mint, rose, raisins, and khus.
