Explosive Hurled Near Kerala BJP Leader Sobha Surendran's Residence In Thrissur
Tension gripped Ayyanthol area of Thrissur on Friday night after an explosive device was hurled at a residence near the home of BJP State Vice President Shobha Surendran. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m., causing a loud explosion that startled residents.
According to eyewitness accounts, four individuals on a motorbike were seen near the house moments before the explosion. CCTV footage from nearby cameras is being examined as part of an investigation led by the Thrissur City Police Commissioner.
Shobha Surendran, who was at home at the time of the incident, told the media that she was awakened by a loud blast around 10:44 p.m. She said that she woke up hearing a terrifying sound and urged the police to trace those behind the attack, as per a report on Manorama. She also noted that the vehicle used by the assailants has not yet been identified, as the road near her residence is commonly used by many vehicles.
Authorities suspect that the attackers may have mistakenly targeted her neighbour's house, intending to strike hers. A detailed probe is underway, and local residents have reportedly spotted a suspicious vehicle in the vicinity during the night.

Condemning the incident, Kerala BJP President Rajeev Chandrasekhar took to X (formerly Twitter), stating, as per ANI: "Shobha Surendran is a respected and widely admired leader of all Malayalees. The cowardly bomb attack attempt near her residence is deeply disturbing and must be condemned in the strongest terms. Neither she nor the BJP will be intimidated by such acts of violence."
"I call upon the Chief Minister, who also holds the Home portfolio, to ensure a swift, impartial, and thorough investigation and arrest of the criminals involved, regardless of whether they are from Congress or CPM," he said.
Police are continuing their investigation and are appealing to the public for any additional information or footage that might aid in identifying the suspects.
