Punjab Warriors win hockey bronze at Auckland tourney

Punjab Warriors women’s hockey team has won the third place and a bronze medal in the New Zealand Heritage Cup 2025, organised from April 18 to April 21, at the North Harbour National Hockey Centre, Auckland (New Zealand).

The tournament was held in collaboration with the North Harbour Hockey Association of New Zealand. Giving information in this regard, Punjab Warriors team coach Kulbir Singh said that for the first time, a Punjabi women’s hockey team participated in the games on New Zealand soil. Due to the efforts of Australia’s leading sports promoter Manpreet Singh and New Zealand’s leading sports promoter Charanjit Singh Channi, this Punjabi club proved its mettle in the international level tournament.

Six teams each of men and women participated in the tournament. Punjab Warriors was captained by Olympian Gurjit Kaur and won the title of the best player of the tournament. Along with this, she also won the title of the best scorer in the tournament by scoring eight goals. Punjab Warriors defeated last year’s winners New Zealand Maories 4-3.
