Blind murder case cracked in Kangra: 3 Bihari migrants held

Kangra police have successfully cracked a blind murder case in which the body of an unidentified woman was found in the Galu Langa forest area under the jurisdiction of Palampur police station. The police have arrested three migrant labourers from Bihar on charges of murder.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Motu Kumar, a resident of West Champaran district and Chhote Lal and Moti Lal, both from Madhubani district. All three were living and working in the Palampur sub-division of Himachal Pradesh.

Kangra Superintendent of Police Shalini Agnihotri stated that the woman’s body was recovered on April 22 from the Galu Langa forest. The police registered a case under Section 103, 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Palampur Police Station and began an investigation. Upon examining the body, officers discovered a tattoo reading “Pinky” on the victim’s right arm.

Further investigation revealed that a missing person report had been filed for Pinky Devi at Bhavarna Police Station on April 10. Her husband, Dinesh Turi, a resident of Jharkhand living in the Bhavarna area, was called to the scene and positively identified the body as his wife’s.

The investigation team analysed the deceased’s mobile call records and found frequent communication with a suspicious number traced to Delhi. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by DSP Lokendra Negi was formed, which soon tracked down and arrested the primary suspect, Motu Kumar Gond, from his mother-in-law’s residence in the Mundka area of Delhi.

During interrogation, Motu confessed to the crime and revealed the involvement of his two accomplices—Chhote Lal and Moti Lal—both of whom were later arrested from Ward No. 13, Palampur.

SP Agnihotri revealed that Motu was having an affair with Pinky, who was allegedly pressuring him to marry her. When he refused, she demanded Rs 2.5 lakh and allegedly threatened to file a police complaint if her demands weren’t met. Distressed over the situation, Motu, who is already married, discussed the matter with his friends Chhote Lal and Moti Lal.

On the night of April 9, after consuming alcohol, the trio conspired to murder Pinky. The next day, Motu picked her up on his bike and met with the other two in the Galu Langa forest. In a premeditated attack, Motu struck Pinky on the head with an iron rod, followed by Chhote Lal delivering a second blow, resulting in her immediate death. They then discarded the murder weapon, Pinky’s purse and slippers at the crime scene before fleeing.
