Auto driver awarded five-year jail term for molesting minor girl

An auto driver has been sentenced to undergo five years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) in a minor’s molestation case.

The Judge, Fast Track Special Court, convicted the man in a case registered on May 6, 2023, under Sections 342, 354 and 354A of the IPC and Section 10 of the POCSO Act at the Industrial Area police station.

In a complaint to the police, the victim’s mother stated that her daughter was studying in a school in Chandigarh. One day she received a call from her class teacher asking her to meet her immediately. When she and her husband went to the school, they were told that the victim had confided into her class teacher that her auto driver had sexually assaulted her.

The girl later told her mother that when all other children had alighted from the auto and went to the school, the auto driver harassed her.

After hearing the arguments of the defence counsel and the public prosecutor, the court convicted the accused in the POCSO case. The convict was awarded five years of RI. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 51,000 on the convict.
