SRH's Sri Lankan allrounder Kamindu Mendis took an astonishing catch to dismiss a dangerous-looking Dewald Brevis of the Chennai Super Kings on Friday. There was a brief silence in the stands of Chepauk as Mendis flew to grab the ball that was safely travelling past the boundary ropes.

It was in the 13th over of the game bowled by Harshal Patel that Mendis pulled off the impossible at long off. Playing his first game of the season after replacing injured CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad, Brevis was batting on 42 from 24 balls. Having blasted a sixer in the previous ball, South Africa's "Baby ABD" played another lofted shot -- slashing a fuller delivery from Patel. A calculated jump to his left helped Mendis to cling to the ball with both hands while still airborne. As he showed the ball was safe inside his palm, an excited SRH skipper Pat Cummins rushed towards him along with other teammates who lifted Mendis jovially.

The wicket left CSK reeling at 114/5, staring at yet another below-par total. Walking in at number five, Brevis played a memorable innings, hitting four maximums and a four before his unfortunate dismissal.)  Ayush Mhatre (30 off 19) and Ravindra Jadeja (21 off 17) were the only other batters who could show some resistance against SRH after Mohammed Shami got Shaik Rasheed in the very first ball of the innings. Sam Curran (9 off 10), Shivam Dube (12 off 9) and stand-in captain MS Dhoni (6 off 10) had another off day with the bat.

Meanwhile, Mendis also managed to pick up a wicket after he was handed three overs by Cummins (1/26). The skipper himself and Jaydev Unadkat bagged two wickets each while Harshal Patel stood out (4-0-28-4) as CSK was eventually bundled out for 154 in 19.5 overs.
