Role of panchayats crucial in rural development: DC
Panchayati Raj Day was celebrated in Kapurthala today. Addressing a function held on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal said the day is celebrated every year to mark the decentralisation of power in the country. He asked the officers to give a new momentum to development works through the oldest administrative institutions of India, panchayats. The DC said officers should work with full dedication for the all-round development of villages
He also said that efforts should be made to resolve minor disputes at the village level itself so that people can get justice quickly.
On the occasion, Chairperson of the District Planning Board, Lalit Saklani, also shared her views.
Notably, after the suggestions of Balwant Rai Mehta Committee, the Panchayati Raj system was implemented for the first time in Nagore district of Rajasthan on October 2, 1959.
