Phagwara holds candlelight march for Pahalgam victims

A candlelight march was held in Phagwara to express solidarity with the victims of the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir. The march was led by local Congress MLA Balwinder Singh Dhaliwal and witnessed participation from hundreds of Congress workers and local residents.

Participants lit candles and observed a moment of silence to honour the lives lost in the attack. As emotions ran high, leaders from the Congress party addressed the media, raising serious concerns about the prevailing security situation in the region and calling on the Central Government to implement stronger and more effective preventive measures.

MLA Dhaliwal, along with other senior Congress representatives, appealed directly to Union Home Minister Amit Shah to take swift action in the aftermath of the attack. They also demanded appropriate financial compensation for the families of those who were killed or injured.

The leaders criticised what they described as an inappropriate gesture — reports of a red carpet being laid out during Minister Shah’s visit to the site of the attack — arguing such optics were unbefitting during a time of mourning.

Throughout the march, demonstrators raised slogans condemning terrorism and advocating for peace and unity. There were also strong calls for greater accountability from Central authorities in the face of repeated security lapses.

Among the prominent participants in the march were Sanjeev Bugga (Congress president, Phagwara), Tulsi Ram Khosla (president, SC wing), Manish Parbhakar (Urban president), Anu Suhota (president, Yuva Vikas Morcha), and Ashwini Suhota (vice-president, Yuva Vikas Morcha), alongside several other local leaders and citizens.

Jalandhar
