MDU campus newsletter unveiled
The Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU) authorities have moved one step towards enhancing academic communication and community engagement with the launch of its quarterly newsletter ‘MDU Mirror’.
This initiative, spearheaded by the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication (DJMC), aims to serve as a reflective platform that mirrors the academic, research and cultural vibrancy of the university.
“The newsletter will serve as a comprehensive reflection of the academic activities, administrative functioning and research pursuits taking place at the university. It will also provide a shared platform for faculty members, research scholars and students to voice their opinions on academic reforms and contemporary issues, said Prof Harish Kumar, head of DJMC and editor of ‘MDU Mirror’.
He maintained that the newsletter was formally released by Governor Bandaru Dattatraya during the MDU’s 50th Foundation Day recently. “Before the launch, we organised a specialised workshop on newsletter production to equip students with the essential skills in writing, editing and design,” Kumar added.
Vice Chancellor Prof Rajbir Singh highlighted the importance of this newsletter stating that it would foster a sense of belonging among students, faculty and researchers, serving not only as a chronicle of university events and scholarly achievements but also as a platform for intellectual expression. “The newsletter offers students of the DJMC a valuable opportunity for experiential learning. From editorial planning to design and distribution, the production process of ‘MDU Mirror’ provides hands-on training in all facets of newsletter creation,” Singh added.
Prof Ashish Dahiya, Director (Public Relations), MDU, said the newsletter has been envisioned to evolve into a dynamic journalistic platform capturing the pulse of academic and extracurricular life at MDU.
