CDLU contractual, part-time profs demand timely salary
A total of 62 contractual and 96 part-time professors working at Chaudhary Devi Lal University (CDLU), Sirsa, have raised their voice demanding timely salary from the university administration. They say there is no fixed date for receiving salaries, which leads to financial difficulties every month.
The professors claim that, once again, they have not received their salary for March, even though April is almost over. They pointed out that regular faculty members, non-teaching staff and employees hired under HKRN receive their salaries between the third and seventh of every month, but no such schedule exists for contractual and part-time teachers.
One of the professors shared, “It’s the school admission season. We need to buy books for our children and manage household expenses. But without a salary, everything comes to a halt.”
The teachers have accused the university administration of discriminatory treatment. They demanded a permanent solution so they could focus on teaching and research without worrying about financial instability.
In response, university Registrar Dr Rajesh Bansal stated that as soon as salary bills are submitted by the departments, payments are processed and transferred immediately.
However, sources from several departments said that salary bills are usually submitted by the third or fourth of each month, but there are regular delays in disbursement.
Teachers feel that the real problem lies in a lack of coordination between departments or a lack of will. Either way, they are the ones suffering. They are now urging the university to fix this issue and ensure a proper, consistent salary schedule to avoid this recurring crisis.
