Karnal: Day after cremation, sea of humanity pays tribute to Lt Vinay at his residence
A day after the cremation of Naval officer Lt Vinay Narwal, who was killed in a brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, a wave of grief and solidarity swept across the region. People from all walks of life visited the residence of Vinay to pay their respects to the 26-year-old, who was among the 26 victims of the ‘Pakistan-sponsored’ attack that has shaken the nation.
Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar visited the grieving family in the morning, offering condolences and assuring full government support. “This cowardly act has pained every Indian. The Prime Minister immediately returned from his foreign visit and convened a high-level security meeting. Strong measures have been taken—Pakistan’s High Commissioner has been asked to leave, visas have been suspended and the Indus Waters Treaty has been put on hold,” said Khattar.
He also highlighted significant support from people of Kashmir and said, “This time, the people of Kashmir have spoken against terror. Shops and markets were shut in protest. The nation is united, and we will not let such acts go unanswered.”
On calls for honouring Lt Narwal as martyr, Khattar said, “There are policies for declaring martyr status, but this attack is no less significant. Within the policy framework, the government will do what is necessary. We will also consider naming an institution or road in Karnal in his memory.”
Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatraya spoke to the family on the phone and condemned the terror attack, calling it a “heinous crime against humanity”.
Congress Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Randeep Surjewala, Congress Ambala MP Varun Choudhary, BJP Rajya Sabha MP MP Kartikeya Sharma, Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Rajesh Nagar, BKU president Gurnam Singh Charuni, Congress MLA Ashok Arora, Congress MLA Induraj Narwal,Congress state president Udai Bhan and several other former and sitting MLAs reached there and expressed condolences.
Calling for strict and united action, Deepender Hooda urged the government to go beyond party lines and take the harshest possible measures in response to the attack. “The entire nation is one in this matter. The enemies of the country and humanity must not be spared at any cost. The government must act decisively and strike at the very root of terrorism. We will support every step the government takes to crush this evil,” he asserted.
Surjewala said, “The massacre of 26 innocent Indians by cross-border terrorists is a barbaric act. Every Indian who believes in humanity, love and brotherhood feels as if a family member has been lost.”
Calling for united and decisive action, Surjewala emphasised the need to curb terrorism without political divides. “This is not a political issue. This is about India. Terrorism is an assault on every Indian and we must respond collectively, rising above party lines.”
Rajya Sabha MP Kartikeya Sharma said, “I am confident that the Centre will deliver a befitting response. No perpetrator of this attack will be spared—those responsible will face strict action.”
Besides, in a display of solidarity and grief, students and teachers in various schools across the district wore black bands to protest the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir that claimed 26 lives, including Lt, Vinay Narwal.
A candle march was also carried out in the city, condemning the terror attack. The residents of the city demanded strict action against the terrorists. Apart from it, some of the traders also took out a protest march in the city, demanding action.
