Kin refuse cremation until ‘accused’ sisters-in-law held

Demanding the arrest of two sisters-in-law of a woman who died under mysterious circumstances in Rampur Gujran village yesterday, her family staged a protest by placing her body on the Baddi-Nalagarh National Highway in Nalagarh today.

Refusing to cremate the woman, her kin insisted on the immediate arrest of the duo named in the FIR. The protest saw a large turnout of women who expressed outrage over police inaction. They said that despite repeated assurances, the two accused remained at large.

Baddi SP Vinod Dhiman said a case of murder and dowry death had been registered against six individuals based on available evidence. He confirmed the arrest of four accused, including the woman’s husband, her parents-in-law, and her husband’s paternal uncle. He added that police teams were actively searching for the remaining two accused — the sisters-in-law — who are currently absconding.

The protesters finally lifted the road blockade at 6:30 pm after receiving an assurance from Nalagarh MLA Hardeep Bawa who met them and convinced them that the police would act in a fair and transparent manner and arrest the two accused soon.
