2 held in murder case of ex-sarpanch’s son

The Dabwali police have cracked the Masita village murder case, where the victim, Gursewak Singh, was the son of a former sarpanch, within 24 hours. Two main suspects have been arrested.

A special investigation team, including CIA, Dabwali, city police, and the cyber cell, was formed to handle the case.

The arrested have been identified as Kuldeep Singh Panch and Iqbal Singh, residents of Masitan village. According to the police, both had been closely tracking Gursewak’s movements for several days.

Dabwali SP Nikita Khattar said the incident occurred on April 22 around 7.30 pm, when Gursewak and his friend Deepak Yadav were returning home on a motorcycle. Two assailants on a black bike approached them from behind. The pillion rider opened fire, shooting Gursewak seven-eight times and Deepak once. Gursewak died on the way to hospital.

The FIR was filed the next day based on a statement from Gursewak’s brother, Sarvjeet Singh.

The SP said the motive behind the murder was a rape case filed by Gursewak and Deepak against Iqbal’s brother Ramandeep Singh, who was currently in jail. The two victims were set to testify in court next month. To prevent this, the accused allegedly plotted to eliminate the witnesses.

On the day of the attack, the accused had coordinated via phone, hiding and trailing Gursewak’s route. As he returned from his fields, the ambush was carried out near a local dharamshala.
