All-party meeting under way as govt briefs leaders on Pahalgam terror attack
A day after India announced strong measures against Pakistan following the Pahalgam terror attack, the Centre on Thursday convened an all-party meeting on the issue.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is chairing the meeting currently under way in Parliament House.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and Leader of House in Rajya Sabha JP Nadda are attending it.
From the opposition side, Congress’s Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi, TMC’s Sudeep Bandopadhyay, NCP (SP)’s Supriya Sule, SP’s Ram Gopal Yadav and other senior leaders are in attendance.
The government has invited parties with more than five MPs, it is learnt.
After the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security, government sources had said all parties were being contacted for the all-party meeting.
The Congress earlier on Thursday asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to chair the meeting.
In the meeting, Singh will brief the leaders on the Kashmir situation and the April 22 terror attack and take all parties on board about a united national response to the Pakistan-sponsored terror act.
