As India mourns Pahalgam, cake being delivered to Pakistan high commission sparks outrage

Amid the tightened security around the Pakistan high commission in Delhi in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack which left 26 people dead, a man was spotted going to the embassy with a cake in hand.

While the man refused to answer questions from the media, the timing of the cake being delivered—two days after the horrific attack in Pahalgam—has raised eyebrows, with many wondering what the Pakistan high commission was celebrating.

The video was posted online even as a protest was staged outside the high commission, with people demanding decisive action against Pakistan, accusing it of supporting terror activities in India.

Barricades were put up around 500 metres from the high commission, and the protesters were stopped there, a Delhi Police officer said.

Some protesters tried to climb over the barricades but were stopped by the police personnel and taken away.

On Wednesday, India had downgraded diplomatic ties with Pakistan including expulsion of its military attaches. India will also be withdrawing its defence, navy and air advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.

"These posts in the respective high commissions are deemed annulled. Five support staff of the service advisors will also be withdrawn from both high commissions," Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri had said.

The overall strength of the high commissions will be brought down to 30 from the present 55 through further reductions, to be effected by May 1.
